The government has decided that people need protection from debt relief IE the “debt settlement consumer protection act” this law will put most of the settlement industry out of business and leave those in debt with no choice but bankruptcy when they cannot afford the outrageously high interest rates the banks are charging. It is my humble opinion that the government needs to stop passing laws that do the opposite of their names. This law will not only not protect consumers but will further hurt them. The settlement program I represent is helping hundreds of clients get out of debt at a monthly payment they can afford. If this law passes it will make it impossible to pay for the work needed to be done to process clients. Much like the paycheck protection act this law does not do what it says and we are called scammers when the politicians & the banks are the ones scamming the consumers.

There are ALOT of TV commercials out there offering debt settlement. They are not actual settlement firms, almost every commercial is a lead generation firm that will connect you to any debt settlement company willing to pay $45 to receive your call. I once worked for one of these firms and quit because I did not feel good about it. Many of these companies have poor ratings and do not properly explain debt settlement and do not offer proper legal representation. DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! A proper settlement firm is run by attorneys willing to represent clients if creditors decide to try and sue. Debt Relief for You offers this to every client big or small. As well as analyzing your situation to see if debt settlement is your best option. I implore all of you to not fall for the TV commercials you are seeing and consult a real debt anylist before jumping into settlement.

I spoke to client today who has $31,000 in credit card debt and is paying almost $1,000 a month in minimum payments. When presented with the option to lower those payments to just $472 a month and to be represented by attorneys and to be debt free in just 40 months, instead of 17 years which her statements showed. She said “I must first show this to my accountant and my lawyer and get their opinion. I answered “Are they also struggling to meet the monthly minimum payments on $31,000 in credit card debt and not putting money away for retirement and selling off old gold to get by?” She said I don’t think so… If they aren’t then they will not give you the right advice!!!!!!!!! When looking for an opinion on debt relief ASK SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS NOT SOMEONE WHO IS DOING WELL. 10 years from now the lawyer and accountant will likely have tens of thousands saved for retirement but this woman will still be paying $1,000 a month and will still have another $13,000 to go before she will be debt free. BRILLIANT!
